Name: DraftKings Sportsbook App Review. Description: DraftKings Sportsbook comes into the sports betting world with loads of knowledge and experience from its online daily fantasy platform. It could be argued that DraftKings has an advantage born out of the online world when it comes to online and mobile sportsbooks.
DraftKings
DraftKings is moving from the Daily Fantasy Sports niche right into the sportsbook market and they’ve made just an OK start, with the overall offering nothing to write home about just yet.
The registration process is real easy and if you are already a DFS player you can simply transfer your already inputted details from there right over to the sportsbook online or via the app.
In terms of the lines offered on sports DraftKings have made a good start with this venture, though they have
nowhere near enough withdrawal methods available and their customer service leaves a lot to be desired but atleast you can expect a pretty good opening bonus.
DraftKings Bonuses
DraftKings Welcome Bonus
Much like with its rival FanDuel, DraftKings has made it possible for both brand new customers and existing Daily Fantasy Sports players to receive a free bet of up to $500. You will not require a promo code, instead just register with the sportsbook and your bonus is automatic.
To claim your bonus, just make a deposit and place your first wager and DraftKings will match it up to the value of $500. What sets this bonus apart from its main competitor is that it is not a refund, it’s a real free bet.
For example if you make a $300 wager on your first try with the sportsbook, you will get another $300 wager on the house credited to your account automatically.
You may want to use this quickly though as the free bet expires in one month from receipt and of course only the profit from the free bet becomes available as cash; i.e. if you place a $300 free bet to win a total of $500 and you are successful, only the $200 profit will be released into your account.
DraftKings Odds Bonuses & Other Campaigns
Aside from an admittedly decent welcome bonus, players maybe shouldn’t expect too much in the way of
freebies or extras once they are playing just yet.
One good thing though is that if you want to become a DraftKings fantasy sports player away from the
sportsbook, you can be eligible for prizes from a fund worth up to up to $1million weekly.
DraftKings VIP Program
As of yet no loyalty programs have been developed for sportsbook players with DraftKings though they do have one for the DFS players known as DraftKings Rewards.
Fantasy players earn ‘crowns’ whenever they play in real money events and the system is tiered. The more you play and spend, the more you can earn in prizes. We think and hope a similar system will be implemented for sportsbook players soon.
Odds and Betting at DraftKings
DraftKings have done new players a favor by making the sportsbook easy to use with plain and simple language and icons and this is something we definitely appreciate. As more and more North American markets are legalized, new players are joining up and perhaps don’t have the experience of some bettors.
There are enough betting markets to keep you going initially including futures, props and lines but as they
become specialist in the industry we’ll expect to see more variation. Currently odds are offered on:
- Baseball
- Basketball
- Boxing
- Cricket
- Darts
- Football
- Hockey
- MMA/UFC
- Motorsports
- Rugby
- Soccer
- Tennis
The sportsbook’s guaranteed profit (vig) seems a little high which always gives a company a greedy look so this is something DraftKings will really need to fix. Before delving into the world of fancy lines and new technology, they need to get the basics right of offering good value for money.
DraftKings Casino
As part of releasing its smartphone app, DraftKings has dipped its toe into the world of the online casino, though the sportsbook is of course the main focus. See our App feature below for more information on what is currently on offer.
DraftKings Website
The main website is a very clean and simple affair. No space is wasted with unnecessary colors or logos and
instead only the main information is provided to players, which in theory is a good thing although to be honest the appearance is a little boring. Given that more players in these territories are new to sportsbooks than not, language has been kept to neophyte level.
Technologically speaking we’ve seen no major glitches at all and the site is easy to follow with a top navigation bar showing available leagues and events and an A-Z for all sports.
When clicking through a particular sport, bettors can see all wager options including lines, parlays, props and more and then selecting one of these brings up a ‘bet slip’ making it easy to place the wager.
DraftKings Live Betting
In this market there has been an immediate demand for live, in-game betting and on this front DraftKings has stepped up.
Players can place bets on a game after is has started and once they have a feel for the action, though naturally odds offered may be a little lower than pre-game.
The main positive here is that DraftKings offer a big selection of live in-play events to bet on going right into the detail of ‘next point’ or ‘next play’ in individual sports games which we like. The only thing that could make this better is the introduction of live streaming which DraftKings doesn’t currently have.
DraftKings Cash-Out
Much like live betting, another demand from the online sportsbook connoisseur is a cash-out feature and
DraftKings does have one, but it comes at a cost.
Bettors can take whatever profit is offered on their live bet before the game has a chance to go against them, or perhaps limit losses by taking something back from a bet that appears to be going awry.
Cash out is available at DraftKings for almost all bets types but only on selected sports for now and this vig is what is bugging us slightly.
Say you place a $100 bet to win $200, the game is going well and you are offered a cash-out of $150. You may be tempted to take that as you are guaranteeing profit. But unlike other sportsbooks, DraftKings will offer you the reduced amount AND take a vig of up to 8% which we think is unnecessary.
DraftKings Mobile
Overall Mobile Experience
Overall there really isn’t much to say about DraftKings’ mobile offering. There is an app, but it is basic and gives the bettor only what he or she really needs.
DraftKings App
An app immediately became an essential when gaining a license to trade in New Jersey and this has made a mobile casino become a reality alongside the sportsbook.
Currently only blackjack is available simply as an aside to the sports stuff and maybe as a way to keep players interested when there are no major games to bet on, though it is assumed more table games will follow. The blackjack game is integrated within the sportsbook app and is not available on the main website.
The app is available on all devices whether iOS or Android and is a pretty limited affair in terms of design, made perhaps to satisfy rules and regulations more than to offer a great betting experience while on the move.
DraftKings Deposits and Withdrawals
Although it’s early days for the DraftKings sportsbook, the banking options leave a lot to be desired really and we hope they can improve this soon.
For deposits bettors can use MasterCard or Visa credit and debit cards, Checking Accounts or PayPal. A low
minimum deposit of $5 is a help while the max is $2,000 for now.
For withdrawals customers are even more restricted and this is a major problem for us. If you are in the area
you can get cash to the Resorts Casino cage leaving the only other way to withdraw having played online by an old fashioned Check which could take 7 days.
It seems PayPal and eCheck will be added very soon and this will begin to significantly improve the overall
service offered by the DraftKings sportsbook.
DraftKings Responsible Gaming
DraftKings takes its responsibilities very seriously in terms of helping players not to go too far. A full breakdown of their Responsible Gaming policy can be found here: https://sportsbook.draftkings.com/help/responsible-gaming
About DraftKings
With FanDuel having already been in existence for three years and dominating the fantasy sports market,
DraftKings was started in 2012 and immediately began eating into its competitors share.
By 2013 the funding really started to flow with the MLB being the first major league to invest in a DFS company until by 2014 FanDuel and DraftKings were essentially out on their own with 90% of the market share and battling hard for supremacy.
More endorsements followed in 2015 with NHL and TV firm ESPN getting on board before $300million of funding came from Fox Sports.
In 2017 sports gambling began to be relaxed state by state and DraftKings jumped quickly to become the first mobile online sportsbook in New Jersey in the summer of 2018.
DraftKings Gambling License
DraftKings is fully licensed to provide a mobile sportsbook in NJ and to date has had no major legal issues or bad press relating to poor practices.
DraftKings Customer Support
We were a little disappointed in this, especially given that on the DFS side of things DraftKings is a long
established and large company who really should know better.
Aside from providing FAQ’s and help sections on the website, offering real live customer support appears to not be a priority right now.
There is no direct telephone customer support, only a call back system which means you may have your query answered when the time is not convenient for you. In theory customer support is available 24/7 but with only this option, we have to wonder why anybody who has the slightest doubt about what they’re getting into would join up knowing they cannot get immediate answers.
DraftKings Terms and Conditions
DraftKings’ Terms of Service are kept in line with most major online sportsbooks and casinos, full details are
available at https://sportsbook.draftkings.com/legal/nj-terms-of-use
If you’re in New Jersey, you have access to DraftKings Sportsbook. Here’s a rundown of where you can find DraftKings for sports betting now and in the future.
DraftKings Sportsbook online
Here are the states where you can find DraftKings:
DraftKings in NJ
The well-dressed DraftKings NJ sports betting platform operates under the license of Resorts Atlantic City, but it’s available across web and mobile channels statewide. As long as you’re in the state, you can wager.
The product is perhaps more polished and market-ready than we expected from DraftKings. The company was, after all, solely a daily fantasy sports outfit until May 2018.
It was the first online sportsbook in the state and currently is the biggest in terms of revenue.
DraftKings in West Virginia
DraftKings Sportsbook announced a deal in December 2018 to operate WV sports betting via mobile. DraftKings partnered with Penn National Gaming, which runs Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races.
DraftKings Sportsbook went live in WV in August, around the same time as rival FanDuel launched. While West Virginia is a relatively small state, it’s still important for DraftKings to expand everywhere it can.
DraftKings in Indiana
The third state for the DraftKings Sportsbook app was Indiana. It was one of the first two sportsbook apps to go live in the state on Oct. 3.
Indiana is not a huge state, but it’s notable for its proximity to several large cities where sports betting is not yet legal, including Chicago, Cincinnati and Louisville.
Land-based DraftKings Sportsbooks
There are currently two land-based DraftKings Sportsbooks in the US:
- DraftKings Sportsbook at Resorts, in New Jersey
- DraftKings Sportsbook at Scarlet Pearl Resort in Mississippi.
States that may have DraftKings Sportsbooks in the future
Potential for growth is capped in the short term, however. While FanDuel has racked up market-access partnerships throughout the country, DraftKings is still pretty lean on that front.
Here’s the list of states in which you might see the next DraftKings Sportsbook pop up, and it’s not a very long one:
New York
Apart from NJ, New York is the only other state in which DraftKings has a confirmed point of entry. It announced a partnership with Del Lago in July 2018 that covers both retail and online/mobile operations. If that materializes, Del Lago could end up christening the first on-property, DraftKings-branded sportsbook in the country.
That’s all well and good, except NY sports betting is not yet in place. Voters approved the activity for four commercial casinos in 2013, but regulators have lagged on implementation. What’s more: that existing law excludes online/mobile wagering, so a new one likely will be required before the DraftKings Sportsbook app launches in NY.
Recent rumblings create some cause for optimism on the retail side, but the timeline for NY sports betting is still very much up in the air.
Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania is a little closer to becoming an online sports betting state than its neighbor. Full legalization came late in 2017, and launch arrived in November 2018.
Draftkings Sportsbook Chat Games
DraftKings figures to be a candidate to partner with one of the PA casinos, but it would have limited ability to fully leverage its brand. State regulations permit each casino to deploy just a single online/mobile platform displaying its own logo. Each may only use one sports betting partner.
About half of the 13 prospective licensees are off the board, it appears:
- SugarHouse/Rivers: Owned by Rush Street, which has a partnership with Kambi. That’s DraftKings’ supplier, too, but there’s no indication it is part of the deal.
- Parx: Recently announced that it will use GAN to power its operations. It works with Kambi as well.
- Presque Isle/Lady Luck: Both will soon be operated by Churchill Downs, which has established a partnership with SBTech.
- Harrah’s: Parent company Caesars has an NJ partnership with Scientific Games that figures to carry across the border.
It’s also impossible to pin down a timeline for the launch of online PA sports betting, but it’s coming sometime in 2019.
Nevada
This one could be interesting, since Nevada is one of the few states in which daily fantasy sports is explicitly prohibited as a skill game. DraftKings is a sports betting company now, though, an activity that is very much legal and thriving in the Silver State.
It has generally seemed unlikely that DraftKings would pursue Nevada sports betting, but nothing is a given anymore. The company recently announced plans to open an office in Las Vegas, which at least draws a raise of the eyebrow. DraftKings wouldn’t pay for a license to offer DFS as a “gambling” game, but might it do so in the world of widespread sports betting?
It’s also worth noting that CG Technologies is being pushed out of the Nevada market amid a string of gaming violations. Either it or the many sportsbooks it serves will need to find a replacement supplier, and a shiny new option has just become available courtesy of DraftKings.
File that last bit of evidence in the circumstantial folder.
Other candidates
Draftkings Sportsbook Chat App
Any state with legal sports betting should be considered a candidate for a DraftKings Sportsbook, really. In this post-PASPA world, company executives have made no secrets about their ambitions.
Rhode Island and Delaware have both legalized sports betting, too. Neither operates mobile betting, however, although it is legal in Delaware. The industries in both states are administered by state-chosen suppliers under the lottery’s direction.
It looks like the states broken down above represent the complete list of candidates for DraftKings Sportsbook in the short term. Despite its early lead, it’s even possible that it could still be stuck in only NJ and Mississippi when the calendar ticks over.
